My winter break

I got home a couple of hours ago, after spending three days with my mum and sisters in our holiday home by the sea, which was great. I love being home because my mum makes my favourite dishes and we have so much more fun than when I lived at home. I rarely go home, but when I do, we always go somewhere fun or play some games. It's like I appreciate my mum so much more when I don't see her every day. When I lived with them, we used to argue daily, mostly over dumb things lke not taking out the trash or leaving my glass in the sink. It doesn't happen so much when I'm just visiting. I love that.

When I got off the train, it was kind of necessary to pick up some groceries in the nearest grocery store, and I found this:

Two entire rows of ELF-makeup. I love this, because it's about £1.50 and just as good as the more "expensive" brands like Rimmel London or Maybelline. I'm a big fan of ELF, 9/10 would recommend. I'm so happy that it finally invaded the Danish drugstores because it's awesome makeup to even more awesome prices. Yay!

Tomorrow is cleaning day. My friend and her boyfriend comes over for chocolate mousse and cluedo on friday, so it has to look proper. And frankly my tiny home looks like someone threw a bomb in here. I need to fix that. My sisters say I got my mum's neatfreak-genes. I can't stand having people over when my home doesn't look decent. Friday evening an aquaintance of mine throws a party because she turned 18, so I'm going there and probably out for a few drinks afterwards. Saturday and sunday are reserved for relaxing/fixing my sleep schedule, and monday I'm going back to school.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves mascara

Yesterday I decided that it was time to try a new mascara because the mascara I mentioned in my ELF Haul is running low already. I don't really know how that happened, but both ends are completely empty. So I needed to get a new mascara, and to be honest, I picked this one because it looked cool and was kind of cheap. I chose Rimmel London's Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves. It's a really long name though.

That's a long name, and it fits the length of my lashes when I apply it. It's so good. Basically it doesn't really give you a clumpy look, but more of a natural length and colour. If you apply it the right way of course. The first time I tried it, it did the clumpy things, and I thought I'd wasted my money on it, but then I experimented with how I hold the brush, and it helped a lot.

This is what it looks like when applied with care. I realise that my eyelashes aren't equally long, because I sometimes accidentally pull them out. Bear with me. I really like it, and it's definitely worth a go.

My favourite music #1

First of all, I don't want to make this a daily, monthly or weekly thing. We all know what happened to A Week on Instagram. So this is just going to be a thing that I do randomly when I find some music that deserves more credit. I really love music. I don't have a specific taste, I just listen to whatever pleases my ears. That obviously changes regularly, because I'm the person who listens to the same music until I get tired of it or find something that I like better.

This time I've found a mashup of two amazing songs. I don't know where it came from, because I've seen it all over Tumblr, but I've also seen it elsewhere. Maybe it just turned up out of the blue and no one knows where from. Anyway, it's a mashup of Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics and Seven Nation Army by White Stripes. They named it Sweet Dreams are made of Seven Nation Army, which sounds kind of weird but the song is really good, and lets be honest. That's all that matters, isn't it?

My favourite lipbalm!

So many people talk about Eos lipbalms as the most amazing thing in the world. Honestly, I disagree with them. As I live alone, my economy doesn't exactly give room to spend £10 on a lipbalm (yes, they are THAT expensive in Denmark), and to be honest I'm a bit of a cheapskate when I buy stuff like that. I'm not saying that I refuse to use them if I have one, but I don't understand why people spend so much money on Eos when there's cheaper alternatives.

I honestly prefer the cheaper and simpler methods of moisturizing my lips. In Denmark we have so many different lipbalms and lip conditioners, you name it. My all-time favourite is the Mentholatum lipbalm. It's about £2 for a double pack. That's pretty decent, because let's be real here. How many of us have actually used up an entire lipbalm without losing it? Probably one or two out of ten.

So I ask you: Why spend £10 on a single lipbalm (that you will probably lose) when you can get 10 mentholatum lipbalms for the same amount of money? What's even greater about mentholatum is the fact that it has the nicest smell of eucalyptus/mint and I really like it. It does freeze a bit in the nose, but it's great and I love it. I might purchase some at some point to check if I'm wrong about Eos.

My latest obsession: Peppermint tea

I love tea. I buy more tea than I can drink, but it's genuinely my favourite hot drink throughout the year. I love how many different tastes and scents you can get, but my all-time favourite has to be peppermint. I had it for the first time when I was on a school trip to Berlin four years ago, and back then I wasn't really fond of it. My mum brought me a box of peppermint tea when I moved out, because she assumed that it was really good. I didn't know if it was, but I gave it a go. It's literally the best tea I've ever had.

I might be a tea-hoarder, but this is the one flavour I always return to. It has a nice peppermint taste, but also a lot of herbal taste, and it makes you feel so good! I've made it a habit to drink this in the morning, because I feel so much better after drinking it.

Which tea is your favourite?

Cosy winters!

During last week, the temperatures in Denmark dropped below zero, and we now have snow. Personally, I'm not the one to build a snowman or having snowball fights. In fact I prefer staying inside with warm and fuzzy clothes, tea and a book or movies.

It's not massive amounts of snow, but it's really cold. I've curled up in my bed with a cup of peppermint tea, biscuits and A Walk to Remember on DVD. It's really the only thing we can do when it's cold. If I was good at ice skating, I'd do it on the lake close by, but I'm terrible and it's too cold.

What do you do when it's cold?

New year's resolutions 2014!

Boop!
First of all, sorry I haven't been around much, my christmas has been so stressful. I haven't really had time to do anything, but I'm back now. I hope you all had an amazing christmas with your families and a fantastic new year with the people you love!

As the title reveals, I will talk about new year's resolutions for a moment. Mainly because I do have a few myself, but also because I want to share my view on how to make a "proper" new year's resolution. If this was a youtube video, I'd make a jump cut right here.

Making a new year's resolution
Let's be honest for a moment. How many people manage to actually keep the classic resolutions? Lose weight, quit smoking, floss daily, the list goes on.
I've had so many of these classic new year's resolutions, and to be honest, I never actually kept them. When I started high school in 2011, I realised that I'd been doing the resolutions all wrong. I had to make new year's resolutions that I knew I could keep instead of making things that I should do.
To make a good new year's resolution, think about this:

* Will you be able to keep it?
* Is it simple?
* Is it too optimistic (i.e. "quit smoking")
* How will you do it?

New year's resolutions through the years
In 2011, my new year's resolution was to be more thankful. I hadn't been very good at thanking people and showing gratitude, but I decided that enough was enough and made it my new year's resolution. That was the first year I kept a new year's resolution, so I was really proud. This was when I decided to do this properly.
In 2012 my new year's resolution was to cut down self harming. I didn't want to force myself to stop completely, because I knew that wouldn't happen, but for christmas 2012, I hadn't self harmed for about a month.
In 2013, my new year's resolution was to be happier. I know this is one of the cliché ones, but it made sense. When I reached September, my psychologist told me that I would be off citalopram for christmas, if everything remained the same. It did, so I'm partially med-free now.

In 2013 my friend and I agreed that when we celebrate new year 2014, we should both have a boyfriend. That's not really my new year's resolution though. For 2014, my new year's resolution is to make my mum proud. I know she'll be proud of me when I get my graduation cap after finishing my last exam this summer, so that's what I'm aiming for.

Do you have any new year's resolutions? Tell me about it!

Bonus: testing ELF

To show you what I meant when I said "kind of orange". What I really meant was "It's very orange and not very pretty". To be honest, I don't really like it very much, Captivating wasn't my shade. The eye is mine, and I tested the mascara. It gives a nice length, which is what I think is important.

ELF Haul!

As I told you in this blogpost I've ordered a bunch of makeup from EyesLipsFace, and it FINALLY arrived! I got the box in the mail today, and when I opened it, it looked so christmassy and nice because they actually put some pink fluff inside the box to make it more festive! I ordered a Regular and Waterproof mascara duo, accidentally two Lipsticks in the shade "Captivating", Eye Transformer palletteComplete coverage Concealer and lastly a 10pc Festive Brush Set.

Generally, I'm positively surprised. I paid £3.75 for the eyeshadows and concealers, and I think they were definitely worth the money! The concealer covers every red spot I have. Two of the eyeshadows are too coloured for my taste, but the other two are nude and I really like that. The Mascara gives great length to my lashes, which is what I was going for, because my eyelashes are voluminous already. I'm not too excited about the lipstick though. It's kind of orange, which looks really strange. Sadly.

I really like the brushes though. I paid £12 for ten brushes, which is ridiculously cheap, but I actually think they're really nice. I haven't used them yet, but they feel great!
Like I said, I accidentally bought two lipsticks, so I'm planning on giving one of them to my friend along with her christmas present.
All in all, 9/10, would recomment! (Click here to see the aftermaths of testing makeup)

Last note: I'm sorry about being so absent, I've written a big assignment for school, and I'm finally almost finished. I just need to read it through, correct grammar and typos, and then I hand it in on friday! If I won't get a chance to blog before christmas, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Writer's block and makeup!

Yesterday I had my unofficial last day of school. As I'm a high school senior, I have to write a massive assignment crossing over two subjects. I chose to cross over English and Social Studies and go with Sherlock Holmes, Fan culture and Tumblr, which is really cool, but now I'm stuck. I've finished the offspring, read all my texts and now it's just writing the analysis and interpretation, look at Tumblr with a sociologic angle and write my observations, finish off the assignment and then read it through. I just can't get to it. I need a break, and I need to do something fun. Not that reading Sherlock Holmes isn't fun, I just need to go somewhere.

On the bright side, my procrastination pushed me onto EyesLipsFace. I've always thought of buying something from them, just to see how good it really is, when it's so cheap. I'm running out of eyeshadow and concealer, so I've ordered some lipsticks, a concealer, an eye shadow pallette, a mascara and some brushes. You'll se what I've gotten when the mailman shows up with a big box of makeup!

Have you ever tried ELF's makeup? If so, what did you think?

By the way; I know I haven't posted this week's A Week on Instagram, but to be honest, nothing's really happened. Sorry!

Christmas Shopping!

We've reached December. That means that Christmas is less than a month away. Today I went to buy some presents for my parents and grandparents. Of course, as always, I got something for myself as well. I got a glittery nailpolish from Loréal, some fun things for christmas and a box of christmassy body butters from Baylis & Harding. It has three containers with a Sweet Peppermint, a Cherry Candy Cane and a Strawberry Swirl. I haven't tried them yet, but I will soon. The large present is for my grandparents, and the smaller one is for my parents.

Who are you buying gifts for this year? Let me know!

When your brain shuts down

Today one of my friends asked me "If you could choose one superpower, which one would you like?". But then the thing happens. As soon as I get asked to choose something, I suddenly forget every single thing I know. I forgot every single superpower, and the first one I could think of was invisibility. I panicked and said that. I still can't think of any superpowers that would be cool. Maybe the ability to refill things. No money? Refill. No food? Refill. No shampoo? Refill that bottle!
Well, that was a step aside. I don't know if anyone recognizes my trouble. Ask me to mention three presidents, and I forget every single president to ever have existed. Ask me what kind of ice cream I prefer, and I forget every single flavour I've ever tasted. I found a video that proved to me, that I'm not actually the only person to have this problem. In this video, a guy approaches different people and say "For a dollar, name...." I laughed really hard when I watched it, because I recognized myself in it. There's one person who succeeds, the rest are panicking and not responding. Watch it here:

Do you recognize it? Let me know!

16 Uses for Vaseline!

As I mentioned in this post, I'm really not a fan of using Vaseline as a lip balm. I think it's greasy, nasty and it doesn't smell very nice, so I prefer a normal lip balm. Instead, I've found 16 uses for Vaseline:

1. Vaseline is better than soap when you need to get a ring off your finger. It makes your skin more "slippery", and helps the ring get off.
2. Put Vaseline on the areas around your eyes when you dye your lashes and brows. It's really great here, because the colour doesn't go through, and it'll make it easier to remove the colour that might have ended up on your skin.

3. Dab some Vaseline on your hairline to prevent an ugly edge from the colouring.
4. Put some Vaseline on the areas where you spray your perfume, before doing it. It'll make the perfume last longer.
5. Use it to keep your eyebrows in place.

6. Use Vaseline on your cuticles, it makes it easier to push the cuticles upwards.
7. Put some Vaseline on the tips of your eyelashes before going to sleep. Don't get it all the way to the roots, because the oil in the Vaseline can damage your roots. This will make your eyelashes more flexible.

8. Mix the Vaseline with some flaked salt and use it as a leg peeling. It makes your legs smooth and nice, while it also gets rid of the dead skin.

9.  You can use Vaseline as a lip gloss. Don't use it as lip care, it doesn't work very well.

10. Put it on zippers, if they're hard to zip. It makes it smoother and helps the zipper to glide.

11. Carefully put a bit of Vaseline around the openings on nailpolishes that are hard to open, it'll loosen the grip.

Bland en meget lille smule vaseline sammen med øjenskyggen, for at fÃ¥ en vÃ¥d effekt. (anbefales ikke til daglig brug – se alternativ)

12. Use it to polish leather shoes and bags.

13. Mix a tiny bit of Vaseline with your eyeshadow to get a wet effect. Don't do this every day, it's not healthy for the sensitive skin on your eyelids.

14. Use it in your face when you go on longer flights to prevent your skin from drying out from the plane's aircondition.

15. Remove glue from fake eyelashes with Vaseline.

16. Lastly, you can use it on your lips, if you like that.

These were my 16 uses for Vaseline. Do you have anything I've missed? Let me know!

A Week on Instagram #2

I know this is a day late, but as I mentioned, yesterday was my birthday, so I wanted to make a birthday post instead. I've tried to post more things on Instagram, but I'm really bad at remembering to capture the moments. I did get some though, and without further ado, here's my week on Instagram:

My 19th birthday!

Today is my birthday. I'm not really the kind of person who makes a big deal out of birthdays, but I like celebrating with my family and friends. As I live alone, I wasn't woken up with my family singing for me, nice breakfast or presents in the morning. In fact, I just got up, got ready and went to school. But it's been a nice day anyway. My friend Julie gets the award for making me the best present in the world. My English teacher has a twitter, and I showed her a tweet about me. She thought it was funny, and decided to frame it for me. I laughed so hard, best gift!
Other than that, my parents and sisters got me a leather jacket from New Look. Even though I mentioned here, I was actually planning on wishing for one for christmas. But my mum and I talked about leather jackets once, and they got me one. I really like it! My uncle, aunt and cousins got me a box of Pukka Night Time tea and two tea towels from OyOy. From my grandparents I got money, which is also very much appreciated, because I do spend a lot of money.

How I feel about The Hunger Games

When the books first came out, I didn't really care about them. To be honest, I've never read them until now. As you might know, if you follow me on Twitter, I went to see Catching Fire this Friday. I purchased the books when I went to London, because I was planning to read them before going to watch the movies. But let's be honest, I didn't even start. But my lovely friend invited me to go watch Catching Fire, and I figured I might as well. So we went to watch it, and I really liked it. It was so good, oh my god.
But! If you've watched the film, or read the book, you know how Catching Fire ends. You know how outraged you probably were, and so was I. So when I got home, I sat down with my books, and started reading from the beginning. I didn't want to just read Mockingjay, because you can't start in the middle of a book series. So as of today, I've finished the first book and I'm not planning on reading anything but Catching Fire and Mockingjay until I've finished them!
If you haven't read them or seen the films, go buy the books. Read them. Go watch the films. They're so good, and Jennifer Lawrence is so amazing as Katniss.

Have you read them, or seen them? Let me know what you think!

The Day of the Doctor!

If you're British, you've probably already seen it. If you're European, there's still a tiny chance that you haven't seen it. As the title suggests, I'm obviously talking about Doctor Who's 50th anniversary, this saturday. If you haven't seen it, don't worry, I won't spoil. If I do, I'll make it bold so you can easily skip it.
As I mentioned, I'm European. That means that I couldn't legally watch The Day of the Doctor until yesterday at about 9pm, where a Danish channel put it online. I'm a massive Whovian, so I sat down and watched it and I was really excited. I still am, because holy mother of God, that was so amazing. I probably sound so strange, but I sat for about an hour an a half afterwards, gross sobbing and laughing. It was so beautiful that I really didn't know how I felt about it. I was expecting it to be more depressing, because it's Moffat. Let's be honest for a moment; Moffat does know how to write painful, horrifying and confusing episodes. When we've got that settled, I actually think the special was really harmless and nice. **SPOILER** The best part, to me, is the fact that the Doctor was finally happy. Even though he won't remember it, he got to be happy for a moment. **SPOILER OVER**

Have you seen the Anniversary-special? What did you think? Let me know!
Here's some of the moments I snapped and posted on my Instagram:

I am a listener

This is probably going to be long and personal. If you don't want that, you can stop reading now, I won't judge you.I'm a listener. I feel a certain responsibility upon the people I know. I feel so much responsibility, that I sometimes forget myself. I don't do that on purpose, I just care so much about everyone, that I can't let them feel bad. I love listening if people need to talk to someone, and I usually do my very best to help them. I look at things this way: if I can help just one person in need, I get better. I try to tell people that I'll gladly help them, but I don't think they ever plan on asking for my help. I want to make sure that all my friends are doing okay, so I ask them to tell me when they need someone to listen, because I know how it feels to have no one to talk to. It tends to get me to the head, and I seem clingy, which is horrible, because I just want to help.
I lost one friend by letting her down, and I don't want to lose another, so I do my best to ask if there's anything I can do, when they're upset. I write poetry when I'm upset, and this is what came out of losing my friend:
She is alone once again Alone, only the bottles keep her company One is emptied, another is opened One is broken, another is taken from the box One is broken, as goes for her skin Her skin, her mind, her hopes Everything is broken A bottle broken, a piece of broken bottle It feels like it helps As she tears her skin open once again Little does she know that someone is watching Someone, who wants to help Someone who keeps asking her They want to know what is wrong But she tells nothing She keeps quiet No one knows that she is in pain Because she cannot tell She does not want people to know They interfere She wants to make an end to it The bottles, the pain, the misery Misery loves company Company loves more She loves the relief The scars provide The glass is open Once again She opens a bottle to follow Little does she know It has become a problem A seemingly unsolvable problem At age eighteen Is it normal Will it ever be? Having these problems are not normal Not at that age The pills to kill the pain The pills to kill the misery The pills that will eventually kill her She stopped caring a long time ago One goes down Two go down Three go down Three should do it She ends her life Little does she know She took one more life Little does she know, she took mine too

If you've read this, please let me know! If so, thank you!

Christmas Wishlist

I know that it's only November, but people already buy christmas presents. That means that they will call you and ask for christmas wishes. Lovely!
I'm very bad at knowing what I wish for, so I try to make a christmas wishlist, even though I usually say things like "Just buy me something that you think will make me happy", "I don't care what you get me, I'll love it!" and "I don't know, I'm horrible at this!". But not this year. This year I'll start "early" and make a list in my little black notebook. I'll probably make it longer as I go. I don't know how long yet, but this is how it looks so far:

I went to a halloween-party dressed as Abaddon from Supernatural. That included a leather jacket, that I borrowed from my friend. Throughout the night I got so many comments about how great I looked in a leather jacket, and I had to get one. So now I feel like I need one, and it's the first thing on the list.
I've always loved Dr. Martens, and I've had numerous pairs through the years, always red. Now I'm gonna go for something different and wish for a black pair.
The third thing is a pair of earplugs. I can't go anywhere without music, and apparently blasting music out loud is frowned upon, so I need new earplugs. Unfortunately, I can't afford proper earplugs. Fortunately, I can write them on my wish list.
I'm not a very good cook, but luckily I can get help. Frk. Jensen is a cookbook that has the most basic recipes like buns and a chocolate cake. I really need that in my life, because I'm really not a Gordon Ramsay. It deserves a spot on my wish list as well.
My mum's always told me that my hair looks better when I straighten it, even though it's already pretty straight. Unlike most girls, I don't have a straightening iron, but I really want one.
As I mentioned in this post I'm madly in love with New Look. As I also mentioned, I can't afford buying as much as I want to. Gift cards are always good for that kind of thing, so I want to put some on my wish list. I also ask for a gift card for EyesLipsFace. Their makeup is really, really cheap but so good! They have a lot of basic things for £1.50, which is really cheap even though the quality is great! Definitely worth a go!
The last thing is underwear. If you're a girl and you have big breasts, you know the problem; you can't buy nice underwear unless you want to pay £50 for it. That really sucks, because I love wearing nice underwear, but again, I can't afford it. After my school trip to London I fell in love with Ann Summers' underwear. It's really really beautiful, but I can't find it anywhere in Denmark, which is really sad.

Like I said, I need more wishes. Tell me what you wish for!

For when you're sad

I was browsing Tumblr, when I stumbled upon the cutest thing I've ever seen. Tiny puppies that learn how to howl. They're just so tiny and adorable, and they don't all succeed, but you can't help but to think "Aw it's okay sweetie, you tried!" and it just made me happy. I hope it'll make you happy too, if you're sad. If you're not sad, here's a video that makes your day even better:
