My winter break

I got home a couple of hours ago, after spending three days with my mum and sisters in our holiday home by the sea, which was great. I love being home because my mum makes my favourite dishes and we have so much more fun than when I lived at home. I rarely go home, but when I do, we always go somewhere fun or play some games. It's like I appreciate my mum so much more when I don't see her every day. When I lived with them, we used to argue daily, mostly over dumb things lke not taking out the trash or leaving my glass in the sink. It doesn't happen so much when I'm just visiting. I love that.

When I got off the train, it was kind of necessary to pick up some groceries in the nearest grocery store, and I found this:

Two entire rows of ELF-makeup. I love this, because it's about £1.50 and just as good as the more "expensive" brands like Rimmel London or Maybelline. I'm a big fan of ELF, 9/10 would recommend. I'm so happy that it finally invaded the Danish drugstores because it's awesome makeup to even more awesome prices. Yay!

Tomorrow is cleaning day. My friend and her boyfriend comes over for chocolate mousse and cluedo on friday, so it has to look proper. And frankly my tiny home looks like someone threw a bomb in here. I need to fix that. My sisters say I got my mum's neatfreak-genes. I can't stand having people over when my home doesn't look decent. Friday evening an aquaintance of mine throws a party because she turned 18, so I'm going there and probably out for a few drinks afterwards. Saturday and sunday are reserved for relaxing/fixing my sleep schedule, and monday I'm going back to school.

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves mascara

Yesterday I decided that it was time to try a new mascara because the mascara I mentioned in my ELF Haul is running low already. I don't really know how that happened, but both ends are completely empty. So I needed to get a new mascara, and to be honest, I picked this one because it looked cool and was kind of cheap. I chose Rimmel London's Scandaleyes Rockin' Curves. It's a really long name though.

That's a long name, and it fits the length of my lashes when I apply it. It's so good. Basically it doesn't really give you a clumpy look, but more of a natural length and colour. If you apply it the right way of course. The first time I tried it, it did the clumpy things, and I thought I'd wasted my money on it, but then I experimented with how I hold the brush, and it helped a lot.

This is what it looks like when applied with care. I realise that my eyelashes aren't equally long, because I sometimes accidentally pull them out. Bear with me. I really like it, and it's definitely worth a go.

My favourite music #1

First of all, I don't want to make this a daily, monthly or weekly thing. We all know what happened to A Week on Instagram. So this is just going to be a thing that I do randomly when I find some music that deserves more credit. I really love music. I don't have a specific taste, I just listen to whatever pleases my ears. That obviously changes regularly, because I'm the person who listens to the same music until I get tired of it or find something that I like better.

This time I've found a mashup of two amazing songs. I don't know where it came from, because I've seen it all over Tumblr, but I've also seen it elsewhere. Maybe it just turned up out of the blue and no one knows where from. Anyway, it's a mashup of Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics and Seven Nation Army by White Stripes. They named it Sweet Dreams are made of Seven Nation Army, which sounds kind of weird but the song is really good, and lets be honest. That's all that matters, isn't it?

My favourite lipbalm!

So many people talk about Eos lipbalms as the most amazing thing in the world. Honestly, I disagree with them. As I live alone, my economy doesn't exactly give room to spend £10 on a lipbalm (yes, they are THAT expensive in Denmark), and to be honest I'm a bit of a cheapskate when I buy stuff like that. I'm not saying that I refuse to use them if I have one, but I don't understand why people spend so much money on Eos when there's cheaper alternatives.

I honestly prefer the cheaper and simpler methods of moisturizing my lips. In Denmark we have so many different lipbalms and lip conditioners, you name it. My all-time favourite is the Mentholatum lipbalm. It's about £2 for a double pack. That's pretty decent, because let's be real here. How many of us have actually used up an entire lipbalm without losing it? Probably one or two out of ten.

So I ask you: Why spend £10 on a single lipbalm (that you will probably lose) when you can get 10 mentholatum lipbalms for the same amount of money? What's even greater about mentholatum is the fact that it has the nicest smell of eucalyptus/mint and I really like it. It does freeze a bit in the nose, but it's great and I love it. I might purchase some at some point to check if I'm wrong about Eos.

My latest obsession: Peppermint tea

I love tea. I buy more tea than I can drink, but it's genuinely my favourite hot drink throughout the year. I love how many different tastes and scents you can get, but my all-time favourite has to be peppermint. I had it for the first time when I was on a school trip to Berlin four years ago, and back then I wasn't really fond of it. My mum brought me a box of peppermint tea when I moved out, because she assumed that it was really good. I didn't know if it was, but I gave it a go. It's literally the best tea I've ever had.

I might be a tea-hoarder, but this is the one flavour I always return to. It has a nice peppermint taste, but also a lot of herbal taste, and it makes you feel so good! I've made it a habit to drink this in the morning, because I feel so much better after drinking it.

Which tea is your favourite?

Cosy winters!

During last week, the temperatures in Denmark dropped below zero, and we now have snow. Personally, I'm not the one to build a snowman or having snowball fights. In fact I prefer staying inside with warm and fuzzy clothes, tea and a book or movies.

It's not massive amounts of snow, but it's really cold. I've curled up in my bed with a cup of peppermint tea, biscuits and A Walk to Remember on DVD. It's really the only thing we can do when it's cold. If I was good at ice skating, I'd do it on the lake close by, but I'm terrible and it's too cold.

What do you do when it's cold?

New year's resolutions 2014!

Boop!
First of all, sorry I haven't been around much, my christmas has been so stressful. I haven't really had time to do anything, but I'm back now. I hope you all had an amazing christmas with your families and a fantastic new year with the people you love!

As the title reveals, I will talk about new year's resolutions for a moment. Mainly because I do have a few myself, but also because I want to share my view on how to make a "proper" new year's resolution. If this was a youtube video, I'd make a jump cut right here.

Making a new year's resolution
Let's be honest for a moment. How many people manage to actually keep the classic resolutions? Lose weight, quit smoking, floss daily, the list goes on.
I've had so many of these classic new year's resolutions, and to be honest, I never actually kept them. When I started high school in 2011, I realised that I'd been doing the resolutions all wrong. I had to make new year's resolutions that I knew I could keep instead of making things that I should do.
To make a good new year's resolution, think about this:

* Will you be able to keep it?
* Is it simple?
* Is it too optimistic (i.e. "quit smoking")
* How will you do it?

New year's resolutions through the years
In 2011, my new year's resolution was to be more thankful. I hadn't been very good at thanking people and showing gratitude, but I decided that enough was enough and made it my new year's resolution. That was the first year I kept a new year's resolution, so I was really proud. This was when I decided to do this properly.
In 2012 my new year's resolution was to cut down self harming. I didn't want to force myself to stop completely, because I knew that wouldn't happen, but for christmas 2012, I hadn't self harmed for about a month.
In 2013, my new year's resolution was to be happier. I know this is one of the cliché ones, but it made sense. When I reached September, my psychologist told me that I would be off citalopram for christmas, if everything remained the same. It did, so I'm partially med-free now.

In 2013 my friend and I agreed that when we celebrate new year 2014, we should both have a boyfriend. That's not really my new year's resolution though. For 2014, my new year's resolution is to make my mum proud. I know she'll be proud of me when I get my graduation cap after finishing my last exam this summer, so that's what I'm aiming for.

Do you have any new year's resolutions? Tell me about it!
